Road Trip

Have you ever heard of the World's Longest Yard Sale?

"It always starts on the first Thursday in August and has been called "the mother of all garage sales", the "127 sale", the "endless yard sale", "the 127 Corridor Sale" and plenty of other far-reaching and unbelievable titles, but the World's Longest Yard Sale is what it is best known as. "

The "Longest Yard Sale" began as a way to lure travelers away from the Interstates and into the rural communities. The small communities wanted to prove they had something to offer tourists too.

Apparently this has been going on since 1987 but it wasn't until 2000 that I heard of it. Two Florida friends of mine were going and invited me along but alas, I had a shop, and at the time no one to available to watch it for me. But I have wanted to experience if first hand ever since.

I started to hear more of this wonderful sounding way to spend a long weekend and I even saw it on HGTV. Then we moved to Tennessee, only a four hour drive from the 127 Corridor, a main road of the 450 miles. My best friend Liz and I did the "we should go..." bit and then left it at that.

This year during a visit over the holidays we decided to stop saying, "we should go", and made concrete plans. So we rushed to the computer, poured over the map, determined a route and made reservations for a "command post".

So, I've been anticipating and saving my pennies for this trip since January. And now it's finally here! And I'm stoked to say the least. I have no idea what to expect, except heat and crowds. But for the sake of the "hunt", spending quality time one on one with my sister/friend, and the possibilty of finding some good deals, it will all be worth it. I'm taking my camera and will report back with pictures. :-)

So come Wednesday I'm headed West and then North and possibly even South. :-)

Freebie Friday

Well, I'm on the run this morning. I want to get some work done in the studio before this afternoon. Since we live quite a distance from town and my DH only works a half day on Friday, somewhere along the years Fridays have become out designated "errand/grocery" day.

Here in the mountains, it's better to plan ahead as it's not a simple run to the store kind of living. At least any store of any size. Of course I'm not in the boonies, I live in a small community and if I run out of milk or bread I can run down to the local little general/cafe store . But it is limited on what it carries.

So here's this week's image and I'll be back to tell you about my fun road trip coming up next week.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Studio Time

Finally, I was able to get back in the studio this week for a little R &R. :-) My poor studio suffers with this balancing act I'm trying to perform between creating and computering (is that a word?).

Yesterday and today have been cool and dreary rainy days here in the mountains. But I'm one of those strange creatures that actually like this kind of weather. My sister is the same way so it must be in the genes! The kind of days that are good for studio time. I've been listening to XM radio in my studio and soaking up original 30's and 40's music all day. I haven't a clue where the taste for this music came from but I've been listening to it off and on for the past two years and find it very soothing for some reason. I wonder if it's an age thing? LOL

So here are some pictures of what I've been doing in the studio and you'll find them listed in my Etsy store along with some new digital collage sheets.

Digital Collage Sheets now Available

Admit it, so often we just want what we want, when we want it. I know I love the immediacy of receiving images via a download or email these days. I see it becoming more and more popular and I enjoy visiting sites where I can make a purchase and have it within minutes or hours. It makes me say Hoo Ha!

I have begun adding collage sheets to my Etsy store that I will digitally email to you. Unless I'm sleeping or, rarity of rarities, out of the studio, you will more often than not, receive them within minutes rather than hours.

I have just started so inventory will continue to be added as I get them made. Below are what I have available at the moment with more coming. (Babylicious to be added tomorrow 7/25) And of course the watermark will not be on images received.

Freebie Friday -As Times Goes By

I look at the calender above my desk this morning and I realize we are fast approaching the close of July. It seems that every month I have the same reaction, where did it go? How did it slip by so fast? What was I doing while it raced on by? In comparison to many people I live a small life. My husband and I walked away from crowded, suburban Florida living. We traded it for a tiny rural community in the mountains. Nothing here moves fast. Except the pages on my calender.

Today in the mountains it is overcast after a night of one glorious rainstorm. As I type this post the breeze coming through my window is chilly enough that I wish I had on long sleeves. It feels more like fall than the heat of summer. For me it's one of the perks of mountain living. So as I cast about for my image for you today I decided this little beauty was like a bright spot of sunshine on a cool and cloudy day. I hope you enjoy her my friends and create some beautiful art.

ZNE Design Team July Projects

There were some problems getting a decent size picture uploaded to the ZNE gallery so I'm also going to post my two July projects here as I've been asked for a better look see.

These are two digitally composed ATC's. The main images have been taken from a ZNE collage sheet called Lovely trick.

I have to say, I was very pleased with the way these turned out because they began in that somewhat iffy mode when I started. You know the one that starts out, "Oh if only these turn out okay!" ;-)

I hope everyone had a great weekend. I went on an all day shopping spree Saturday with my sister, as the buyers she just sold her house to, also bought all her furniture. So she got to start fresh in the new house. What a blast I had helping her spend her money! LOL

Hello Again Friday! Free Image Time!

Another one rolls around before we know it. Ahhh, for the slower days of youth. I think. Maybe? Well, maybe not the youth part, just the slower days! ;-) I just listed some new items in the Etsy store. Pictures below along with your free image. Everyone have a GREAT weekend and be safe!

New items for Etsy

I have some new stock for Etsy this week. I'll be adding more collage packs. I also have some new cards I keep calling in my mind the "Paris Collection" Sounds grand doesn't it! LOL I seem to be Paris and French obsessed these days. Maybe it's an ooo la la fever?! ;-)

I also created a flag book. I was inspired by one I saw in Somerset Studios Gallery magazine and wanted to try something I've never done before. I listed it in the shop tonight.

I will be adding more during the week. I wish I could just load all the listings at once, it sure would save me time. But alas, if I do that my listings get buried within seconds. So I do like most sellers over there, I list a few at a time through out the week. If there was another way believe me I would do it! ;-)

Freebie Friday

I just want to take a moment and say thank you to all who visit my humble little blog. And especially those of you who take a moment and leave me such wonderful comments. Thank you, thank you.

It's another one of those, oh, my goodness, is it Friday again, kind of weeks. I hope everyone had a great 4th, and got to spend time with the family, eat some great picnic food and see beautiful fireworks.

I'm hard at work in the background working on the new Shabby Cottage Studio store & I hope to unveil before too long. It's a giant learning curve for this artist and I'm putting in lots of hours. So my poor little studio, while organized, ;-) calls out to me in loneliness and longing. LOL

So all that said, here's your image and I know this one will certainly inspire some gorgeous artwork. The pink, blue and brown colors are "so today". ~grin~
