Design Team has been chosen!

I just want to say one thing...if I could have picked every one of you who requested to be on the design team, I would have. Such fabulous talent! But alas, I only had so many spots and more requests to join me on my quest than spots. So thank you, thank you, each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart. You're my heroes. And I send big hugs your way. Soon you'll be able to meet the new design team here on the blog and over in the store. And hopefully we'll create wonderful and inspirational goodies for everyone!

Want to be part of an Altered Art/Mixed Media Design Team?

I've been playing with this idea since I started building the web store. I'd like to put together a SCS Design Team. I love the idea of sharing the creation of art with other like minded people. In years past I have discovered an appealing and satisfying artistic synergy when I come together to create art with others.

I would like to put together a small team and we could grow together. I would need people who can commit to at least one project a month for a minimum of six months. I like people who aren't afraid of brainstorming or making suggestions for the betterment of the team. I would appreciate team members who have some computer skills in regards to having photos web ready. But most of all I'm looking for artists who are passionate about their art and want to have fun creating.

If you think you would be interested and want to know what kind of little perks I will offer to everyone on the team please send me an email through the store Contact form or click on this link and please give me a link back to see samples of your artwork.

Arty hugs,

Shabby Chic Paris Tags

I finally made space in my studio for my sewing machine and this is what I was inspired to make this weekend. I just added a set of these in the Etsy store and in the web store. I sewed on little pockets on the front with some shabby chic fabric for the back of the pocket and a sheer floral overlay for the front of the pocket. There are little tags in the pockets that say Bonjour. I love the way they turned out.

Looking for Color

Mother Nature seems to be a bit elusive and shy this year about showing her colors. I had a date with my husband yesterday to go see if we could find any color.

We went down the road a piece for an uphill climb over the mountain range behind us, headed for the next valley over, to see if they had any more color than we did. Our first stop gave us a great view of our own valley but as you can see, not a whole lot of color yet.

So we continued on in our hunt.
And as you can tell still not a lot of color
to be seen.

Color or not, this brought us to a stop!

The only color here was some practicing rock climbers.

And while we determined that this weekend was not to be
the weekend for our color drive

Lo and behold, Mother Nature did not send us home
empty handed and there was color to be found...we just had to look in the right place!

Post Secrets, Whimsy & TGIF

When I signed into my blog today my eye happened to catch the Blogger Buzz, (which I usually ignore). It was blurb that went like this: PostSecret: A Lifetime of Secrets Congratulations to Frank Warren... blah, blah, blah..... , which was not so interesting on it's own. But along with this blurb came a video trailer of people putting their secrets on a postcard and placing them inside this book in bookstores. Which was good enough to catch my curiosity and make me delve further. I ended up at this blog Post Secret.

I sometimes realize I am really not up on things, as apparently Frank Warren is an award winning author, and this is his fourth book in this series. Actually Amazon probably says it better than I ever could:

"For the past three years Frank Warren has invited people of all backgrounds and nationalities to send him creatively decorated postcards bearing secrets they have never before revealed. He has shared these PostSecrets on his award-winning blog,, in an internationally traveling art exhibit, and in three electrifying books: the bestselling PostSecret, My Secret, and The Secret Lives of Men and Women. "

Anyway check out his blog, it's well worth the visit. They just recently hit their 100th million visitor! Talk about a community art project.....the video gave me goosebumps.

I have a big warm thanks and a hug for Deena of
Sweet Annee Tattered Works of Whimsy for featuring myself and some photos of my work on her Whimsy Wednesday this week. If you haven't been to visit Sweet Annee, please take a moment and pop on over. Deena's blog, like Deena herself, is warm and inviting, like a crackling fire in the fireplace on a cold winter day. And the music she's playing sends me over the moon!!

And finally here is the freebie of the day. Every time I see this image for some reason I'm reminded of Miss Gulch (the witch played by Margaret Hamilton) in Wizard of Oz, riding her bicycle. Go figure. Must be because it's Halloween month :-)

Don't forget to pop by the store, the free collage sheet offer ends Tuesday. And as always my many thanks to all of those of you who do stop by!

Mixed Media Artist Deborah Savage

I thought I would introduce you to some of the work of mixed media artist Deborah Savage, whose work has graced episodes of Sex and the City and Friends. I met Deborah when she purchased a Halloween collage sheet I listed in the Etsy store. She in turn was gracious enough to share some photos with me of what she did with the collage sheet images. I think her work is lovely and I hope you visit not only her Etsy store, but also her web page, Savage.

TGIF Rolls Around Once Again

This has been a busy week. I hope I don't sound overly redundant, but once more I want to thank everyone who has stopped by the store and the blog and spread their warmth and joy with their compliments and well wishes. It makes all the hard work and worry worth it. :-) YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm off to run my usual Friday errands but I'm leaving a free image behind. Enjoy and I'll be "seeing" you! (Ok, I admit, my sense of humor is on the dorky side.) ;-)

Shabby Cottage Studio is Open - For Real!

Yep, Shabby Cottage Studio really is open. And for this artist, who is as technology challenged as one can get, it has been a tremendous uphill climb with a huge learning curve. I can only hope people like it, and that they find inspiration to spark their muse.

I know I could have more offerings, more versatile offerings, more exciting offerings...but right now it has to be what it is... with an expectation of growth. So I hope y'all will hang in there with me and I'll do my utmost best to grow it in a good direction. I have some ideas and thoughts of where I'd like to head but that will hopefully all be part of the growth.. ;-)

I'm trying to make room in my studio for my sewing machine and looking forward to heading back to the studio with some ideas for creations, after spending a summer walking past the door more often than through the door.

I also want to thank everyone for your kind words, well wishes and words of encouragement. They mean all the world to me.

Many Artful Hugs,
