Who loves Chipboard? Friday Free TGIF Image

I know I'm not alone in admitting my love for chipboard. Of course I have been a lover of cardboard since my childhood. I used to save empty shoeboxes because I just knew "someday" I'd have a use for all those boxes. And anyway, they were great to stash things in. ;-)

When I worked in paper mache years ago, I used cardboard for a lot of things, like prototypes for molds and to make my own boxes I covered in paper mache and ribbons and flowers.

When I painted I discovered that paper mache made great paintable surfaces. And of course when I delved into the world of altered art and mixed media, one of my joys was the discovery that those children's books made of chipboard made the most deliciously sturdy altered books. That was a thrill!

Now it seems you can find chipboard around every corner in some shape and fashion. And I'm not hesitant to put the lovely stuff in my shop. I have plans for more to arrive in the store in the next few weeks, so if you love the stuff like I do..... keep an eye out because I'm not afraid to say I LOVE CHIPBOARD! ;-)

Here are some of the chipboard shapes I still have left in the store.

New Tags & Pink Artist

I have some new tags to list on Etsy this weekend. I love the bunny tags, and the "not your usual" Easter colors. And yes, that is a real "cottontail" on this adorable little guy.

I've been having eyes problems today so I know if those chandelier tags are blurry or my eyes still acting up. If it's the pictures I apologize.

And finally I finished my Pink Artist piece and it is winging it's way to it's next destination.

Now I'm off to give these old eyes a sorely needed rest. :-)

I was cleaning up some image files today and thought I'd share a few with you just for fun. I spent many years as a decorative painter. For many years my love and passion was finding old and unloved furniture and turning it into something that would inspire people to take it home and give it a new life. I also loved painting murals and faux finishes in people's homes, turning their plain blah walls into something more than blah. This I knew was what I would be doing the rest of my life...I could only hope to die with a paintbrush in my hand.

Then some life changes brought about an unexpected burnout...but I thought it would pass as I had been through them before and they never lasted long. But this time it has now been about four years and I still don't want to pick up a paintbrush and do so only under duress.

So treasure your passions because you just never know. I have new artful passions now and I don't push myself to paint, hoping that one day the feeling for it will come back the way it went. And in the meantime I have my photos to remind me I didn't imagine it all. ;-)

Happy Friday!

It's a rainy day in Eastern Tennessee. But not as cold and windy as it's been so it's a nice reprieve. I'll take rain any day to cold and windy. :-)

If you haven't checked out the Design Team Easter projects be sure to "hop" over the store and see what loveliness they've been creating! It's well worth the hop and might just prove to get your creative muse juices flowing.

I was inspired myself and created some adorable Jumbo size Spring/Easter tags using images from the Little Lambies Collage Sheet. Both are available in the store. The background papers are Pink N Brown Floral and Brown and White Polka Dots .

I also want to introduce our newest Design Team Member, Dawn Edmonson. Many of you will know Dawn through her wonderful Blog The Feathered Nest and her Etsy store SewManyRoses . Dawn also has a new enterprise where you will find her gorgeous creations and the name guessed it The Feathered Nest. Congratulations Dawn! I am proud, honored and thrilled to have Dawn on my team!

If you haven't checked out our Decorative Papers at the Shabby Cottage Studio store yet, you should! I'm pleased to say our customers who are ordering these papers have nothing but good things to say about our quality. Which of course makes me happy. :-) I'm adding new papers just about every week. Here's a peek at a few ....

Surprised and a Thrill

Miss Gracie says Hello and
Happy Sunday y'all

Last night I got the surprise and thrill of a lifetime. Some of my work is going to be in the new Somerset Digital Studio magazine! Whoo Hoo! I know some of you have already experienced this high but I've never even submitted anything before, so I just want to be happy and thrilled while the joy is still new!

We're having dinner at my mom's tonight and she said that to make sure my head didn't get too big I could sit at the kids table. LOL We don't even have any "kids" in the family around here...they're all out of state having their own kids ;-) much for impressing moms! LOL (actually she is very proud of me.

I submitted the pieces this past fall and never heard anything so wiped the entire thing from my mind. Until last night when I got an email from a friend telling me she saw that I was gong to be in the magazine! Truly, I thought it was a just mix up. But it's true...a spotlight artist in the new maggie. So how does one enjoy this and share with everyone without sounding like you're tooting your own horn? I like to think I'm a pretty humble woman and yet I have to admit to feeling very good about this. I'll have to think on this one.

And here is a picture of some new tags going up on Etsy shortly. 3 tags done as a little nod to Marie Antoinette.
I'm sure she didn't worry about such things.

Confessing my Addiction

I have an addiction that made itself most glaringly obvious to me this week. I was happily working away on my computer Tuesday evening, just tap, tap, tapping along, when suddenly out of the blue my computer just SHUT ITSELF OFF! I swear someday HAL is going to give me heart failure.

I off course, being very computer smart and savy, immediately went to work to discover what the problem could be..."HONEY!" I called "my computer just shut itself off and won't turn back on!" I will deny to anyone the touch of panic in my voice.

To make a long story short my cpu fan had burned out and as usual there were none to be had locally and had to be ordered. Two and a half days without the use of my computer was long enough to uncover the hidden truth. I am totally addicted to my computer! I felt lost, I felt unable to concentrate, I felt unable to CREATE! My muse fled and I was left stranded with myself.

So I can no longer hide from my truth, my long hours in front of this screen can no longer be excused by claming, "yes, but I run an online business". I must step up to the plate and finally admit...Yes, I love my computer, I love working on my computer, I love the tap, tap tapping of the keys. I love receiving and sending email, I love working and creating in my photo editor. And there you have it dear friends, my addiction exposed.

So now that my ugly secret is out I can move on to other things with a clearer mind. My fan came today and was installed and I'm back in action. ;-)

I wanted to share with you something I received in the mail earlier this week. I joined a swap in one of my groups called a 1-2-3 Mingle. We had to create three pieces, a 1", a 2" and a 3". Once the swap closed a list was made and we are to send our pieces to the person below us on th e list. This is what I received from Suzanne the person above me on the list ...aren't they just lovely?! Thank you Suzanne!

And now mine are ready to go in the post and this is my interpretation of the

My BFF Liz is someone whom I admire greatly and have from the first day I ever met her. Her courage and inner strength, her amazing artistic talent, her beautiful southern "grace under fire" ability that eludes me so often...and her ability to find funny, the same things I find funny. I could never ask for a better friend. And yet this is what I found in my email inbox the other day. It made me very teary eyed. I wanted to share it with you in case you haven't seen it before and would like to send it to your BFF.
Reminded me of you.

I Think This Applies To You

A good woman is proud of herself. She respects herself and others. She is aware of who she is. She neither seeks definition from the person she is with, nor does she expect them to read her mind. She is quite capable of articulating her needs. A good woman is hopeful. She is strong enough to make all her dreams come true. She knows love, therefore she gives love. She recognizes that her love has great value and must be reciprocated. If her love is taken for granted, it soon disappears. A good woman has a dash of inspiration, a dabble of endurance. She knows that she will, at times, have to inspire others to reach the potential God gave them.

A good woman knows her past, understands her present and moves toward the future. A good woman knows God. She knows that with God the world is her playground, but without God she will just be played. A good woman does not live in fear of the future because of her past. Instead, she understands that her life experiences are merely lessons, meant to bring her closer to self knowledge and unconditional self love. Girl Smile.....YOU KNOW YOU HAVE IT GOING ON!

I just sent this to a good woman ................why don't you?

So in honor of my BFF here is my TGIF freebie for Friday (with a little help from moi) ;-)

I hope everyone has a marvelous weekend!

Become a " Pink Artist"

I hope you notice the new badge in the righthand sidebar. The Pink Artist" is a community of artists who will be creating a joint art doll that will then be auctioned off to benefit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Before it heads to ebay for auctioning it will have a rest stop at Art Doll Quarterly. All particpants, artists from all walks, are to create a 2" x 2" square with a fabric base which will then be sewn to the doll.

Some contributors have asked if they can do more than one square and so it is the hope of Monica Magness, who is the artist spearheading this worthy cause, that enough squares will be left over to create a quilt to accompany the doll.

So come my sisters, click on the badge and learn more about this wonderfully creative idea that not only stirs the creative muse, but helps a charity that is for every single one of us. There is a time limit so go throw your hats in the ring!

Alice in Wonderland

I remember many years ago when we first started hearing the word "internet". We were curious. What was it? Why was it? And what exactly could we use it for?

I always would liken my first eager explorations to being Alice exploring that rabbit hole. You never quite knew when you followed a link, where you might end up and who or what you might find. Then there was always another link to lead you in a different direction. And while I never ran into a queen wanting to chop off my head I did land in some wonderous worlds.

And these days I have that same feeling about the land of Blogs. I have a very long list of favorite blogs bookmarked. And though I can't get around to all of them as often as I would prefer, when I get a chance to blog hop I find some of the most magical worlds.

This morning I was following the rabbit and ended up at the beautiful The Feathered Nest where resides a most talented artist by the name of Dawn Edmonson. I have met Dawn through my store and as a member of ZNE and I absolutely love her work. You can also find her and her lovely talents through her Etsy store sewmanyroses

Now, while I was at Dawn's blog, she posted about a book give away. Being the bookaphile I am, I immediately checked it out. Author Catherine Matthews-Scanlon is having a give-a-way of two copies of her new book. And while I haven't seen the inside of this bok, I can tell by the cover that this is a book that I will purchase if I can't win it! :-)

Hop on over to Catherines blog if you are interested in a chance to win!

So that was Alice's adventure this morning. I can't wait for my next magical trip!

Here is today's TGIF free image. I know there are a lot of Valentine projects in the air!
