Sayonara January! Hello February!

As I mentioned in a previous post, this month has sped by like a bullet train and so we say goodbye to January until next year....when I'll probably be saying the same thing! ;-)

Hubby and I have slowly (and I DO mean slowly) been painting our bedroom. And I am SO IN LOVE with the color I chose. It's a pale aqua and I can't wait until the room is totally done. The room will be wrapped in this color, even the ceiling and the closet doors. I promise to post pictures when that event arrives but don't look for them anytime real soon. Again, s..l..o..w..l..y, is our operative word on projects around the shabby cottage! LOL

I'm so excited about this room. We're putting up new white molding on the ceiling and the baseboard. I have a lovely brown rug in my computer room that is getting moved into the bedroom because the animals are to hard on it and I will replace it with something more animal friendly.

I have an antique shabby dresser painted white and distressed naturally. :-) When the weather gets warmer I will paint my sweetie's dresser white and the side tables white. All the trim in the room will be white. And NEW windows in a couple months! We had a man give us a quote the other day and another one coming tomorrow and then we'll make a decision. Oh. My. Goodness. I just can't believe it and probably won't until it's all done and I can actually see it all together. I've been such a good girl, waiting for sooooooo long.

Then I have to decide about new bed coverings and window coverings. I do have my eye on a quilt and shams that are brown with soft pink roses all over them. Sweetie said he could live with it. LOL

Okay, enough about me. :-) I added a new Clear Art stamp design and 2 new Fabric collage sheets to the store today. Plus some new decorative papers. So let me show you some pictures.

This stamp set is called Frame It

Halloween Fabric Collage Sheet
This is for the die hard fans! ;-)

Do you need a Blog Header? An Etsy Banner?

I thought it would be fun to share with you a few things I've been up to this month. These are some custom headers/ banners I've created for some wonderful customers who were each an absolute delight to work with. As you can see each one had totally different needs and wants. I feel honored that they chose me to trust with their jobs. I feel headers and banners are so important and truly need to be something that reflects the owner. And according to each of these ladies, their headers truly spoke of them. So I felt each was a job well done.

New Inventory and a Free Tutorial

Have I told you all how wonderful my Design Team is? Oh...I have huh? Well I'm here to tell you AGAIN! ;-) If you've been to the store you've seen the Valentine projects on the front page that were created by the wonderfully talented group of artists who so graciously agreed to be a part of my team. Kim Newberg has written a wonderful tutorial on her
HEART TIES

and she has graciously allowed me to link to that tutorial.

You can go Here to find the Heart Ephemera Collage Sheet she used to create the ties and on this page you will find the link to her tutorial! It's worth checking out. These ties are wonderful for gifts, gift bag ties and decorations! And I know some of you cleverly, talented artists out there can find a way to incorporate them into a piece of your art.

The unmounted Clear Art Bird Note Stamps are back in the store

along with some New Designs

Vintage Hardware

Cherubs & Flourishes

French Mail

And another new design will be added Tuesday or Wednesday!

Today I added about a dozen new Decorative Paper designs. These are getting a great reception from our customers. So thank you!

There's more but I'm running out of time so I'll be back later in the week to share more goodies with you. Until then I hope everybody has had a great weekend!

Last TGIF of January

I have to say, Oh my goodness!, is January really almost over? Didn't we celebrate ringing in the New Year just last week? Which leads my mind to .....and is it possible that my dad really turned 78 this week? I always seem have such a strong image of him in my mind as never aging. And even when the evidence is right under my nose, pointing at me saying...look, look, we're all growing old... I just want to crawl into the bed of denial.

It's not that I fear old age and death, and truly it's not something I dwell on. But, what often accompanies the aging process sometimes scares me witless in the deep of the night, when all things are at their worst, when the worry bogeyman scampers in my sleepless mind. And so as I see these days brush past us at the speed of light I just want to grab them and pull them back. I want to say, NO, not yet, not time for you to go, stay awhile, keep me company a little longer.

So, that's not what I knew I was going to say when I started this post...it just kind of came out of my thoughts about this month speeding by like a bullet train. ;-)

I am very excited to share this with you. My friend and decorative painter extraordinaire Liz Miller, CDA is teaching two classes this spring using Decorative Papers from Shabby Cottage Studio.

The first class is being taught at the Heart of Carolina Tolers decorative painting club. They will be making a gift bag from our papers and then painting a rose on watercolor paper to add as a decorative element to the bag. It is absolutely adorable, and here's the proof. ;-) The paper she used in this sample is our Distressed & Grungy Pink Damask.
You can also find a template for this bag in our store and actually choose which paper you want it printed on.

The next class Liz will be teaching at her studio in Raleigh, Artful Endeavors. The will take a plain art journal and cover the outside with our Decorative Papers and then paint a design on the cover.

Here is the sample Liz did using several of our papers.

When this class is over her students will have such beautiful art journals!

And as always, last but not least is our Free Image of the week. Another image that would work well for a Valentine project.

This weekend my dungeon of a bedroom is finally getting painted!
YAY YAY YAY!
Hopefully I'll have time to post images of the new inventory in the store. Until next time dear hearts, hold tight to today, once it's gone it never comes back.... ;-)

Happy Sunday All!

I hope everyone is having a great day. Here in the beautiful mountains of rural Tennesee, while it is sunny and with a nice blue sky, it is bitterly cold, made more so by a strong breeze. Of course it's also cold inside if you live in a shabby almost 100 year old house like I do.

2008 is the year we're supposed to get new windows for the first floor. About 14 of them, and ten of those 5 1/2 feet tall! Windows that big, and that old, and are not well sealed, can let a lot cold air in a room. I'm here to tell you. And I mean HERE, right now, as I type, my right shoulder and hand feel icy cold. :-) On a really windy day or evening, since I sit with one of those large windows directly to my right and in front of me, I can actually see papers on my bulletin board flutter. We have a gas heater in the computer room but on those days I still end up wrapping a blanket around me and keep on working. Nothing like dedication, huh?! ;-)

I'm also here to tell you, those of you who dream of living in an old house "full of character"...if you never have...you might want to rethink that whole character thing. ;-) Unless you have pot of money for upgrading and remodeling. I visit other blogs and see beautiful pictures of beautiful (warm) rooms and I sigh gently. I think, I love my old shabby cottage, but sometimes......

Okay, enough waxing on about the beauties of living in an old house. I want to share some new goodies with you that I brought out of my studio yesterday. And as always, I admonish you to ignore the quality of the pictures. My DH is building me, as I type, a new light box and I'm searching for a better lighting system. SO keep your fingers crossed that the images WILL get better! ;-)

Chipboard Tags decorated with our own
The tags have already SOLD but more will be coming.

Paper mache heart box with Glitter Bird and florals.
Added this to the store today. It would make a great
Valentine gift!

Bottle Full of Dreams is a
wonderful old bottle that has been
given a glamorous face lift and lots of Bling.

Now this little cutie came out of the studio last week.

It's been a while since I've created an art doll and it was fun
creating this fairy doll. In real life she sparkles and shimmers more than in the picture, as herwings are covered in Silver German Glass Glitter, and also around her face.

One last item today. I have created a new category in the store.
It's called The Flea Market and while it is small now I will continually be adding to it. You never know what you'll find there!

Another TGIF Rolls Around

And I managed not to miss this one! I swear, this week was busier than last! Now mind you, I'm not complaining. It was a very good busy and it made me happy but short on a lot of time.

The SCS Design Team was hard at work even right after Christmas! They have outdone themselves with Valentine projects. Check out their projects on the front page of store and then once you're there you can click on the project images to see even more inspiration and what collage sheet they used to inspire them. Yay team!

I added new goodies in the store last weekend and didn't even get a chance to blog about them. I've added a Stickers category. Here is a sample of the Vintage Brass/Cream Hardware stickers but the photographer isn't a professional so the items that look purple in this picture are really more of a blue. ;-)

Right now I have four different themes in this category. The other themes are Office Altered, Wonderful Women and Fond Recollections. These are nice stickers, with good images and no white around them.

I added a Fabric Collage Sheets category. Here is fun sample of these 100% cotton, paper backed sheets. They are ready to be glued or sewn. There are three themes in this category. Women, Feathered Friends and Family.

Women Fabric Collage Sheet

And last but not least I added an unmounted Stamps category. I decided to just start with one theme of these stamps to see what kind of response I got.

The stamps are called Bird Notes and boy, did these stamps sell out quick! These are WONDERFUL stamps. They are Clear Art Stamps so you can see where you are placing your image, they are a already cut out for you so just peel them off their backing paper and stick them right to an acrylic block (and yes I sell those also). Voila! You are ready to stamp. Personally I think I like these birds better than (gasp!)the Cavellini birds. ;-)

Like I said they sold out quick but I have more ordered and they will be back in stock mid to late next week. I also ordered a couple more themes...Cherubs, French Mail and Hardware...in very limited quantity to see how they go.

Here is your Free TGIF image for the week.

I'm on my way to the Post Office and the grocery store...I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

TGIF...on Monday!

This morning, about one AM, I was laying in bed, still awake, when I realized I totally missed TGIF this week! Last week was so incredibly busy and this week seems to be looking like it's headed the same way, so I'm just going to dash in here for a moment with your freebie picture.

I don't have a lot of old family photos so I'm particularly drawn to this image as it's a photo of my great-grandparents on their wedding day (my paternal grandmother's parents). Enjoy!

Oh I've been hard at work!

Well the New Year has given a jump start to my creative muse and she's actually been able to sneak in the studio for some art time. There are more ideas percolating for later when she can sneak off again, but this is what she's come up with for this week. Plus there is a new art doll waiting for pictures...in fact I think I just heard her in the wings saying "I'm ready for my close up Mr. DeMille". ;-)

I just added this hot little double sided number to my
Etsy shop. Love the Red German Glass Glitter. Very passionate!
TheGerman Glass glitter is sold in the web store and the images are from the Microscope Slide Collage Sheet called Lovers.

This luscious Silver German Glass glitter number has found it's way into the web store. And again I used images from the Microscope Slide Collage Sheet called Lovers

This very Paris, very French, very tres chic banner also found it's way into the web store today.Glittered, flowered and beribboned...ooolala

This nice sized (24") banner is full of "MIRTH" and celebrates the coming of spring and a new year. You'll find it also in the web store.
I hope everyone is having a great week so far!

Yippee Snow! New Inventory for Etsy.

Well I finally got my wish. We might not have had a white Christmas but it started snowing Tuesday night and snowed ALL DAY yesterday. So, so pretty. So, so COLD! Brrr. I had to take packages to the Post Office and our little rural roads had not been rocked yet (they don't salt the secondary roads here, they lay down tiny little rock), so I took it slow and easy, and made it there and back in one piece. When my DH came home from work he said, "You went OUT? Driving? On the road?" And I'm like, "Well yes dear, I say I ship within 24 hours and I mean what I say!" Silly boy, like I'm a helpless woman! ;-)

For the month of December my DH kept asking me what I wanted for Christmas. Being the odd woman out who doesn't want clothes or jewelry, I kept telling him I didn't know and that the only things I could think of were too expensive. Well he totally surprised me by actually getting me what I wanted (but felt I couldn't ask for)! I got a die cutting machine and I'm getting a new camera in a few weeks. I think I need to keep him after all!

So I wanted to post some pictures of what I've been doing with my new toy and having a lot of fun in the process! For now, most of them will come in sets of 8 or 6. I've started listing these tags in the Etsy store and am working on more so I can set up a new Tags category in the web store. So stop by and see me and the new tags... as you can believe I'm going to be doing a lot of these in all kind of different designs! :-)

These tags are just a little over 3.5" in diameter
and trimmed in Silver German glass glitter I sell in the store

A smaller tag, about 2.75" and the picture turned
the tags a bit brighter red than they are in real life

Large Hanging tags with silver Glass Glitter
and embossed edges
