Big Sale! Free Give Aways! Coming Soon!

It's hard to believe that Shabby Cottage Studio has been in business a full year come Oct. 2! This time last year I was working frantically trying to make sure I had everything done and ready for the Grand Opening. I had spent the end of last summer working on setting up the website and the learning curve was steep at times, but I persevered, got past the frustrations, the feelings of being stupid and the I'm NEVER going to get this!" protestations about "all things technology based".

And now it's been a year and I feel like, although I still have so much more to learn about "all things technology based" and it wasn't always easy, with a lot of hard work and many, many...many hours sitting in front of this screen, tap, tap, tapping those keys.....I did it! I got my business up, running and growing. And I plan on continuing to grow. I always tell myself, it will be what it is meant to be, when it is supposed to be. LOL

But for all the hard work I've done behind the scenes, none of this could be possible without you my dear friends and customers! Through all this I've had the hands of friendship extended to me, I've had people trust that I will do what I say I will do, I've had people be kind and generous. I've had customer's give me the most marvelous compliments from their hearts. I've been inspired beyond belief by the people I meet. And so I want to say thank you. Such two little humble words with a whole lot of meaning behind them.

I wish I could invite you all here to the real Cottage for huge blowout party. But since I can't, next week I'm running a 25% Off Everything Sale at Shabby Cottage Studio the store, and Free Give Aways here on the blog and I will be including a free gift with every purchase!

Here is a peek at the Blog giveaway. A mega huge collage pack filled with lots and lots of goodies. Next week I"ll give you a bigger peek at the inside. ;-) And I'm not giving away just one...uh uh...I'm giving away one for every day the sale runs! Which means come Monday Oct 6 I will pull 4 names and each one will receive one of these packs!

So make sure you come back next week to catch the details of the give away and the sale!
And now for our free TGIF image I leave you with this wonderful ad from the late 1890's for some very fashionable bonnets.

As always I wish everyone a marvelous, happy weekend!

Fairy Swap Pictures and as always a TGIF

Sherry has posted a wonderful interview with the talented and lovely Pam Carriker over at Mind Wide Open. You should stroll over there and get to know Pam a little better. I know Pam and I say you'll be glad to know her too. And stop by ove rthere Monday when we present a fun tutorial by Pam as our Guest Artist!

As I mentioned in a previous post I was involved in a Fairy swap last month over at Esty Cottage Style. Let me tell you, if you love fairies you would have been grrrreeeen with envy ;-) at what was being swapped! Everything from cards to pillows, to hand created sculptures and that's just the tip of the iceberg.

My lovely partner was the fabulous Sherry Smyth of Esprit*d'Art and I have some photos (that do not do the items justice believe me.) She send a fairy figurine with the most magnificent wings ever. I'm still pondering about a name for my little fae. In addition I received a gorgeous card Sherry created and the saying on the front says,
Dreams are made of fragile things
Butterfly Breath and Dragonfly wings

And she sent me the little flower button she made. You can't see it but there is an adorable little baby fairy with a crown inside the circle.

I have all of these items sitting with me at my desk and now I can say I'm surrounded with Sherrylove. ;-)

In turn what I sent to Sherry was an altered book. I'm proud of this book because it's the first I've ever made from scratch. I cut the covers and bound it myself. I created the inside pages out of cardstock, some are painted, some are covered in paper. There are two little pull-out fairies in pockets and one little fairy is sitting in a nest with real moss.

I also sent Sherry some Fairy dust in this Fairy cone I digitally created on paper and then cut and put together.
So that was the swap and I think it's safe to say we all had a lot of fun!

And here is our TGIF free image of the week. This little guy knows he doesn't have to worry about getting through the winter months as long as he stays around here. We take care of our friends. ;-)

Here's wishing everyone a marvelous weekend! I had a trip planned to Raleigh to see my bff Liz and cancelled it in lieu of the gas situation so I'm a bit disappointed about that. But we've rescheduled for next month so I guess now I can say, I've got something to look forward too.

A Little Contemplation and TGIF

Another week rolls on by carrying us away from summer and closer to fall. Sooner than we might wish the trick or treaters will be knocking, the Turkey dinner will be planned for the following month and then the flurry of buying presents and decorating the tree.

So I'm trying to have more of "be in the moment" time, enjoy these days of late summer or early fall, by whatever name you may call them. I sit here with windows open in my high ceiling-ed home and enjoy a soft breeze across my bare arm, soft and sweet like baby breath. It's so quiet here during the week. I can hear my several of my chimes playing their music on my front porch and I watch the branches sway on the little tree outside my computer room window. I also notice that I really need to get over to that side of the house and dead head that rose bush! :-) But while it was blooming so prettily I enjoyed the occasional glimpse of a resident hummingbird.

I'm also going to try..."try" being the operative word...to take more Sundays for me and mine and some studio time. If I don't take the time, I can't make the time. With computer work always being needed done it's to easy to fall into a procrastinating pattern when it comes to creating in the studio. To easy to find an excuse. I know. I do it all the time. And yet, "intellectually" I know that if I just move my body in to the studio, and start with something, anything, just to get myself started, then eventually I will be suddenly find myself back in "create" mode and happily humming away.

I hope all of you have a marvelous weekend and that everything goes your way. In honor of the coming season I leave you with your free TGIF image. Hope you can use it and enjoy it.

New Collage Sheets & Papers ala the Cottage

I took time for me today. Stayed away from the computer as much as I could except for some essential emails. It felt good. I didn't really accomplish anything, but it was okay. I'm not sure why I think I must "accomplish" something everyday. I actually opened my sketchbook and played on some pages. And it's not that I necessarily like what I created but the fact that I DID create, that's what was important. And so to that end, I guess I did accomplish something today. ;-)

Don't forget tomorrow the entries for the Sept. Mind Wide Open Challenge Contest will be posted and ready for voting. Again we had a wonderful turnout and absolutely some amazing talent! so come on by, stroll through our "gallery" ;-) and then vote for your favorite. It's always a tough call!

These are what I got listed in the store last night. Now I need to get them listed over at Etsy.

New Paper Designs (we had a request for our web background in a paper and we were happy to comply! The first one you see here is titled Crumpled Shabby ;-)

Soul Satisfaction

Happy first Friday of the month! I hope you all have had a good week, nothing to disturbing or distressful, the boss was nice, the traffic was smooth, your sweetie was sweet and you got good beauty rest every night.

I've had busy but productive week. And I treated myself which is something I don't do as much as I'd like. ;-) Long about the middle of the week I took some time and went to town. I was on a mission and nothing was going to stop me. I HAD to get to the used book store. It's a long trip and I can't get there as often as I would like so a lot of times I'm forced to buy a new book at the local Wallyworld. That wouldn't be so bad if the choices were larger, the prices smaller and I didn't read and finish a book every few days. Which gets hard on the old pocketbook.

I packed up a bag of books I had finished, headed off to town and look what I came back with! I took enough books back I had $33.00 in credit! So all I had to shell out was $7.00...the price of a one new paperback! Ahhh, blessed relief, my soul's hunger has been appeased for a time and I'm already several chapters into a new story.

I wanted to share this with you. The lovely and talented Pat Winters, who was our first Mind Wide Open contest winner sent me this gorgeous little pouch a while back and I've been remiss in getting it up to share it's beauty with you. Let me tell you, I was thrilled and honored and sent Pat an over the top I'm sure thank you note. ;-)

I only had my little camera this morning and couldn't get as close as I wanted without blur, but Pat transferred one of our altered image collage sheet images to fabric and used that as the center motif. It's from the Altered Children series, the little girl riding the fish. The whole pouch has a gorgeous beach/sea/underwater theme and believe me when I say the picture does not even come close to showing you the real beauty of the whole piece. And again I want to shout out to Pat THANK YOU ~THANK YOU!!! :-)

Isn't it beautiful? It's my new computer. Still on the building table. You may not be able to see it, but we're actually closer to completion than we were last week. ;-)

And in honor of my fun little jaunt to the bookstore this week I leave you with this TGIF free Friday image.

I wish every last one of you a joyous weekend!
