One World One Heart Giveaway 2010

The One World One Heart event  was started in 2007 by Lisa Swifka and she states that it started with 85 - 90 participants and that last year the number of participants had swelled to just over 900! And I'm positive the numbers will swell yet again this year. I know I'm adding to it by 1.

Lisa says "The original idea behind this giveaway event was to bring bloggers together from around the world who may never ordinarily meet. It closes the gap of the blog community and enables us to interact, discover new and wonderful people, and in the process possibly win a prize or many prizes along the way."

The only rules for a chance to win this giveaway are simple: one post per person and you most post to this thread to be counted.  I do need an address to get hold of the winner so please leave your email address and if you use this type of format bobsmith (at!) yahoo.com it keeps the nasty spam bots from picking you up.

This event is Worldwide and anyone can enter!  The event started this morning (Jan. 25) and continues until midnight Feb.14 with the winner announced Feb. 15.

Be sure to click on the OWOH Badge at the top right of my blog.  It will take you to the event site and on the right hand side of Lisa's blog will be a link list of all those particpating this year.  Visit these links and make new friends, get in on more giveaways and just have fun...because discovering new friends all over the world is the what this event is all about!

My giveaway is one of my fabric collage covered journals (this is a composition notebook). Even the inside covers are covered in fabric.  Such a pretty place to keep your notes, thoughts and dreams!

Flea Market Chair Makeover

Years and years ago I found 4 of these marvelous rusty chairs at a flea market and filled with excitement, I scooped them right up and got a real bargain too.  They came with no seats or backs and my plan was to re-do them and sell them in the store.  Well you all know about the best laid plans and they never did make it to the store.  Thank goodness.  Because several years ago while they languished in the basement I knew I couldn't sell them and that someday they would be in my kitchen.

Now that we're redoing the kitchen I  finally brought two of these chairs upstairs for the eat in area.  Mr Shabby cleaned them for me, sealed all the rust (of COURSE! I'm leaving the glorious rust) cut seats and backs, yet I couldn't find a fabric I liked locally.  It wasn't until earlier this month on my girls weekend outing when Liz and Karen  took me to Mary Jo's Cloth Store in  Gastonia, NC that I found what I wanted.  And I should have because Mary Jo's is a fabric lovers dream...32,000 square feet filled with all fabric imaginable!

So here is a close up of the back of the chairs

And I decided to trim the bottom of the skirt in a different fabric for contrast. Tone on tone polka dots! :-)

The finished chair in it's pretty graphic French script.

And now residing at the bunny table.
When I brought them into the kitchen I said to Mr Shabby, "Didn't these turn out pretty?"
He said, "Pretty pleasing."  After all these years he can still surprise me. LOL

Now the table top is next on the list for a re-do.  I have to get rid of those grooves as they are a pain to keep clean.

Note to Self

One of the things on my 2010 To Do list is something I call Notes to Self.  As I blog hop, link hop and surf the net, I always come across items that teach me something, inspire me, make me think or touch my emotions.  Whether it is a blog post, a tutorial, a web site, or a video, I add these to my Notes to Self folder I keep in my Favorites.  When I am feeling uninspired, tired or blase about life and art, I visit these sites for a pick me up or to remind me of something I wanted to do or remember or try.  And so it is my intent this year to share these finds with you here on the SCS blog.  The entries will be random, no particular day of the week or month.    You will know what these are because when I do post them they will be called Notes to Self.  Sometimes I might tell you why I posted a particular "note" and other times maybe not.  And if anything that I post teaches you something, inspires you, makes you think or touches your emotion, well then that's all it needs to be.  And so here is my first

NOTES TO SELF

I was visiting Teesha Moores blog.  My first time.  I found this.  And felt I was meant to.

And I hope.
And I think.

Donating for Haiti

These are two of my fabric collage coved blank journals I have donated to Hearts for Haiti. This is an Etsy collective of donated items from hundreds of Etsy shops to raise money to rebuild Haiti. 100% of the proceeds from this shop (minus Etsy fees and Paypal fees) go directly to DoctorsWithoutBorders (http://doctorswithoutborders.org ) in bi-monthly increments. This shop has permission to use the DoctorsWithoutBorders name and a separate bank account and Paypal account have been opened to maintain the integrity of this shop.

If you can help please go here and you will find wonderful and beautiful items for sale and know that your purchase in this shop not only gets you a great Etsy item but it also helps alleviate the needs in Haiti through donations to DoctorsWithoutBorders (MedicinesSansFrontiers).

Thank you!

Kitchen Makeover Peek

If you haven't visited my blog before then you wouldn't know this, but Mr. Shabby is building me a new kitchen.  All by himself.  So it has not been, nor did I expect it to be, a fast makeover.  I am hoping though that by this spring we might have almost all of the major work done.  We spent this fall working on the eat in kitchen area, which Mr Shabby has dubbed the "Bistro".  In fact we are going to create a sign once we come up for a name for the "Bistro" and hang it above the wall. The eat in area sits at the back end of the kitchen, is about 7' x 7', and where we eat our meals when it is just the two of us.  So we wanted to make it warm and cozy.  And I think we're getting there.  I took a few teaser pictures this morning and thought I'd share them with with you.

This isn't in the eat in area but rather the kitchen area

I'm so wanting this kitchen done but I'm being very patient (for me). :-)

It's just plain cold

This guy knows it cold.  He was sitting in our Hydrangea bush with his feathers all puffed up trying to stay warm.  It's how I feel.  Got my feathers all puffed up.

So what can you do when it's cold?  Stay inside in the studio and create something.  So I did.

You can find this in  my Etsy store.

HAPPY NEW YEAR and 2 Give Aways

Happy New Year everybody!  I'm sending out wishes for all of us, I wish for a peace-filled year, a healthy year, a prosperous year...a year filled with content for us all, with loads of creative inspiration and achievements!!!

I've spent the past week busy as a little bee. If you've visited before I guess you have noticed the new blog look. ;-) You know I can't help myself, I am addicted to my digital fun way to much to ever stop changing the blog. And thanks to instructions I found on Cutest Blog on the Block I finally figured out how to do more than just a solid background, so that was fun to learn.

I'm slowly and painfully listing journals and tags in the Etsy store.

I say painfully because I have lost my Etsy hacks. If you sell on Etsy and don't know about the hacks, run, don't walk, to their site and get yourself set up as it will make your selling experience so much easier! The only problem is that when Etsy makes certain changes you lose your hacks and have to install them again, which is what happened to me. And while others have gotten their hacks back, mine seem to have disappeared into the virtual ozone. Even Ian, the owner of the hacks (and now working for Etsy) hasn't been able to help me figure out why I can't get mine back. What I used all the time was the hack for loading more than one image at a time and tag profiles, so I didn't have to keep manually putting the tags in on each listing. Of course, now I'm back to the manual labor.

I also had some really fun new items arrive to stock in the store a couple days ago and I will do my utmost to start getting them listed this coming week. I'm a little under the weather right now but am taking my vitamins and otc medicine so hopefully I've caught this bug before it gets full blown.

Until then I've listed a couple fun new collage sheets
Sweet~Hearts and Altered ATC Backgrounds 1
(images are click-able)

And two new papers
Rue Du Opera and Hotel De L'Opera

I thought this being the beginning of a fresh new year why not get it started right with a couple free Giveaways! Plus I wanted a way to simply say THANK YOU to all those who stop by the blogs and the store. I feel blessed by each and every one of you and I love when you leave comments.

I am offering this small fabric collaged Quattro journal/notebook (papers are lined)

The other is one of my medium sized blank journals/sketchbook

To have a chance at winning one of these all you need to do is leave a comment on this post. To keep me sane, ;-)  please, only comments on this post will count in the drawing. On Jan 7, I will use a random generator for two of  you to win one of these books.  One comment per person please.

Until next post my friends I leave you with....
